I got to go to Nagoya for a couple of days for the 6th International Joint Conference on Natural Language Processing, IJCNLP 2013. Apart from the conference this wasn't particularly exciting since I didn't have any time to look around. I flew into Chūbu Centrair airport, which is no more than an hour by train from Nagoya, and stayed near Kanayama (金山) station within walking distance of Nagoya International Congress Center, where the conference centre was held.

The small part of Nagoya I saw seemed quite quiet. Nagoya International Congress Center has grand architecture and a statue that was designed but never built by Leonardo da Vinci. From what I heard the hotels near the Congress Center and the station were old (and lacked in-room wifi) but appeared to be well-equipped for whatever time they were constructed.

Typhoon Wipha hit Japan during the conference and was serious elsewhere, but in Nagoya we didn't notice it apart from a bit of rain and wind. Leaving Nagoya the weather was good and there were very good views of the Japanese islands flying back to Taiwan. Unfortunately I didn't take any pictures.
